Juniors

Details of the Junior coaching programme and tennis camps may be found by going to the coaching page. The main tournament for juniors each summmer is the Junior Open Tournament. You can navigate to them using the buttons on the left.

League Matches

In 2008 Abingdon LTC are fielding thirteen teams in the OLTA Summer League, two National Club League teams and two friendly teams. The list of Captains may be found on the Summer 2008 Team Captains web page. OLTA matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays, and friendly matches are mainly played on Wednesday evenings

Abingdon had 5 mens and 4 ladies teams in the Winter 2007-8 Thames Valley Winter Tennis League. The TVWTL results tables may be found at the web site http://www.thamesvalleywtl.net.

If you wish to play in one of the teams then please contact the Match Secretary or one of the team captains to let him or her know that you are available.

Match Practice

Every Monday evening ladies team players have match practice from 6.30 to 8.15pm, and the mens team players have match practice from 8.15 to 10pm. Mixed team practice is on Wednesday evening.

Club Tournament 2008

The Club Tournament is held every summer for members of the club. There are singles competitions for mens, under 21 mens and ladies, and doubles competitions for men, ladies and mixed pairs. There is also a mixed doubles handicap handicap competition.

Sign-up lists for Club Tournament will be posted up in the clubhouse.

Preston Bowl Sunday 6th July 2008

The Preston Bowl competition is an Open Tournament for mixed pairs. For background information and entry details, go the Preston Bowl 2007 web page.

Open 11-16 August 2008

The Abingdon Open competition is a Grade 4 LTA Tournament for Juniors. It will be held this year 11-16 August. For information on the 2007 Open and background information, go the Open 2007 web pages. Tournament details are also available on the LTA website. Go to the LTA "Play and Compete" page http://www.lta.org.uk/PlayAndCompete and enter OXF101 or Abingdon in the Tournament search box.

Club Nights

Club nights are on Tuesdays and (in summer) Thursdays. All members are welcome. Just turn up and play. The more people who come, the more fun is had by all. On the first Tuesday of every month between 7pm and 8.30pm there is an organised the handicap tournament.

Court Allocation for Summer 2008

The courts are there for members to use whenever they are free (floodlights are available until 10pm). There is plenty of court time available in the daytime during the week, but in the evenings and at weekends, a balance has to be struck between competing demands and available resources. The table below shows the allocation plan for Summer 2008 for times when organised tennis (for example, matches or coaching) take precedence over casual usage.

Coaching

The main club coach David Smith (Tel: 07790-813720) offers group and individual coaching lessons for Juniors and Adults.

Bev Woodcock (Tel:01235-530904) runs coaching courses for beginners and adult returnees.
